Hello and bonjour everyone!

I would like to nominate Laurie Brandler for this week's Pawsitivity Award! I truly appreciate you and your kindness Laurie! For those of you who don't know, my students and I have been collaborating with her classes for years to make different French foods. Despite her busy schedule and countless responsibilities, she always has a smile on and never fails to make time for us and we appreciate her efforts very much. Just last week we were celebrating National French Week and we made Nutella crêpes and they were absolutely delicious! 

Thank you Laurie for always being so positive and present when I see you... and for making my classroom smell so good J​

Retro Gaming - Arcade1Up Countercade w/ Mystery Encoder Hack

Credit to Team Encoder for their Mystery Hack on the countercade mod.  The Batocera custom firm ware runs great on this simple machine.  The community also shared a 16GB build that can easily be imaged onto a USB drive.  When used, it opens the countercade to play many 80s and 90s retro arcade games.  Some of nostalgic titles for me included TMNT: Turtles in Time, The Simpsons, WWF WrestleFest, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, and many Street Fighter 2 spin-offs and crossovers.  Over Thanksgiving, I enjoyed playing the classic Rampage with my nephew.  From 11/24/2023

Retro Gaming - Arcade1Up Countercade

My Thanksgiving purchased is this countertop retro arcade.  It has an 8-inch display, dual joysticks with 6-button setup.  The video and audio qualities are impressive for such a small gadget.  At just around 16-inches wide, I was able to justify giving this machine a try.  There are other 3/4 scale and full size cabinets, but those are out of the question due to space limitations.  This system comes with four games.  Yet the retro gaming community has developed a mod to allow it to play other retro arcade games.  I'm having some trouble getting it to work at the moment, will continue to tinker with it over the next few days as a hobby.  The MSRP is $149, Amazon sells it at $244, I was able to snatch up a $99 deal via Target.  In the 80's and 90's, playing arcade games was a memorable part of my childhood.  (From 11/20/2023)

I want to nominate Alice Karaian for this week’s Pawsitivity award! She is a great influence on her French students and she creates a loving and welcoming environment in her classroom. She lives far away and still manages to attend their performances and graduation every year in order to support her students. Whenever I see her, she always asks how I’m doing and is genuinely interested in catching up with me. Plus, she loves Taylor Swift!

Pawsitivity Award #59

Good afternoon,

 

First of all, thanks to Luselia for nominating me. We were the only people hired our years so we’ve grown up at Bonita together.

 

When I was thinking about who to give this award to, I immediately thought of someone on campus who I’ve had a conversation with about how positive they are. I was mad about something trivial, and brought it up with her in passing. She responded with positivity. She said, “Most people aren’t positive, so I try to make the world better by being intentionally positive.” And after talking to her, I felt a lot better and dropped what I was so angry about.

 

So, this award goes out to the most positive person I know: Richanne Dolfi!

 

Good luck finding someone more pawsitive than you to give this to next!

Bonita Boys Water Polo CIF Champions

Bonita Boys Water Polo CIF Champions! Bearcats win 16-5 in the D-4 Finals @ Mt. SAC. So proud to see my former and current students experience such joy. Former student Gage is one of the coaches for the winning team alongside his older brother Dylan. Jacob is currently in my AP Calc class and he led the game in scoring. I also got to enjoy the game with former student Ryan who is thriving in college at the moment. A great day for the Bonita Bearcats, coach Gage said the team put in a lot of work all season and he is very proud of them, as I am of him.

Gunpla - Nu Gundam Collection

My Nu Gundam Collection: MG Ver. Ka Edition, RG Edition, and SD Edition.  Water transfer decals were put onto the MG kit on Oct. 21, 2023 to complete the build.  I built these Nu Gundams after building a handful of RX-78's.  The next mobile suit may be the Hi-Nu Gundam. From 10/27/2023

Bonita Drama Presents: Anatomy of Gray

From our Drama Director Mr. Frederick:

Anatomy of Gray is a captivating play set in the 1880s in the small town of Gray, Indiana.  The narrative is driven by young June Muldoon who, following the death of her father, longs for a healer to prevent further suffering in her town. Her prayer seems answered when a doctor, Galen P. Gray, arrives in a rather dramatic fashion—carried by a tornado in a balloon. The doctor, despite having a peculiar aversion to blood, begins treating the townspeople, sparking a series of events that blend humor, drama, and a touch of romance.  The play creatively breaks the fourth wall, allowing characters to narrate events directly to the audience, weaving a tale that’s described as a children’s story for adults​​.
