ASAP - Mile Eight

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: I am extremely grateful for the runners who have pitched in to support the charity project tonight. I thank Carolyn, Melissa, Rhonda, and David for their self-less generosity and willingness to give to others who are less fortunate. My mission is to put 100% of every dollar donated directly towards buying new shoes for students in our local foster/homeless programs. More to follow soon.

WASC Welcome

We had a rare Sunday school event. As the chair of a school focus group, we welcomed the visiting WASC (School Accreditation) Team to our campus. We greeted them with our choir and jazz band performances and a showcase of the wonderful activities that happen on our great campus. Go Bearcats!

Band on the Run 5K 2017

I attended the inaugural Band on the Run 5K event to support our school's music program. It was a beautiful sunny morning at Heritage Park in La Verne. Students and parents came out to support a wonderful run. I helped with the timing system at the start/finish line. As a runner, volunteering at this run made me appreciate all of the volunteers that I had benefited from during my many races.

Winter Spirit Dress Days

Last week's dress out themes. I did not participate on Crazy Hair Day.

No hair, don't care.

ASAP - Mile Seven

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: The charity took another big step tonight. Not surprisingly, the leadership friends of SoCal Pacers were all very supportive of the cause of this project. They also shared many concrete resources with me that can provide support for this charity. Thank you SCP.

ASAP - Mile 6.2

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: To save cost for this non-profit project, I'm using gift wraps that I won from the white elephant gift exchange sponsored by the SoCal Pacer running club's Christmas Party. Thank you, Dan the Man, for the gift wraps.

ASAP - Mile Six

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: On Wednesday, the charity again received a very generous donation from someone within my close circle. I've never taken all of the awesome people around me for granted. In fact, I've always looked up to this person. This donor prefers to remain as an anonymous superhero. On behalf of the homeless kids who will receive new shoes, thank you. More to follow.

ASAP - Mile Five

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: In addition to Coach Mario, runner friend Sang also made a generous contribution to the charity during last night's group run. Sang is an excellent runner with an amazing heart. On behalf of the kids who will receive new shoes, thank you. This morning, I have already informed my school's liaison to help gather more potential recipients' shoe sizes. More to follow soon.

ASAP - Mile Four

During our weekly track workout tonight, Coach Mario generously contributed to the charity. He is a true supporter and teacher of the sport of running. On behalf of the kids in need, thank you Coach Mario, for your donation and support. You're the man. The project continues and I will contact my school liaison for shoe sizes of more homeless children.

More to follow.

A Shoe Adoption Project's Vision: (Draft - Updated 1/22/17)
The vision of ASAP is to provide every homeless/foster child in the school district with one pair of new athletic shoes each academic year. New shoes help promote the improvement of a child's physical and emotional health. Through running, the child can develop positive self-esteem, accountability, and confidence.

ASAP - Mile 3.1

A Shoe Adoption Project: The first three pairs of shoes donated were these Gray/Orange Nike Evolution 2's. They are simple entry level running shoes. I think they look pretty cool.

ASAP - Mile Three

Mile Three: The shoes have been gift wrapped and are ready to be delivered. It's a privilege to be able to run and to race (and on rare occasion have the opportunity to place in a race). I want to share this joy with those less fortunate. It's that simple. I am very fortunate to be in a position where I'm able to give to others.

ASAP - Mile Two

Mile Two: We have our first group of shoe recipients. Our school's liaison communicated with a family who have been homeless for quite sometime. The family has two high school boys and one middle school boy. The mom has given us the three brothers' shoe sizes. I found a good deal on some nice running shoes after running my half marathon on a rainy Sunday morning. I purchased them right away for the three brothers.

More to follow soon.

ASAP - Mile One

(Pardon the misspelling on the sign.)

Found this in the fall of 2017.
Mile One: A Shoe Adoption Project Update

The charity project takes its first big step by getting the school liaison on board. Mrs. W. is extremely resourceful and she has a big heart for the homeless/foster youth group. She agrees to help communicate with the families in need to collect the children's shoe sizes for me.

More to follow soon.

Thank you, Leo.

My journey back to running in 2016 was highlighted by meeting a group of great people. My running friends, including Leo, are better than yours. He gave me this Oregon sweater, it matches my school color. Thank you so much, Leo. *However, Carolyn forbids me from wearing this when her Cowboys play the Packers.*
