Spring Rally 2017

Thank you to ASB for another creative and fun rally. All team captains and performance groups entertained us and send us off to spring break on a high note. The Nintendo/Mario theme was on point. Check out the fantastic class posters below.

Thank you, Marisol

Thank you, Marisol, for this beautiful and delicious cake. She told me that it's from a boutique pie bakeshop in Claremont. Marisol is a varsity high and triple jumper. We first met two years ago when I was score keeping at the home track meets. This year, she is in my Pre-Calculus class.

Blood Donation Drive 2017

Thank you Mrs. Black, the BHS Anatomy students, and the City of Hope staff for hosting another successful donation drive. Mrs. Black reported that we gave 127 units (to serve 381 cancer patients), it's more than triple the amount of a typical high school drive. I donated and the process went very smoothly overall. Thank you for the pen and mug. It is a privilege to be able to give to others. Go Bearcats!

ASAP - Mile 27

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: The seven pairs of shoes were delivered to an Upland homeless shelter last week. Shauna, the lead case manager, shared this note from a parent of a shoe recipient of our February donation. I share this with all of the donors, supporters, and friends of this project.

Teacher Band: In Danger of Failing

Thank you to the talented teachers who put on this great event. Once again, the teacher band "In Danger of Failing" rocked the house with their music. All the student bands were amazing. Congratulations to this year's winner "Boy Band", three talented female musicians who performed a great set.

ASAP - Mile 26.2

Good luck to all LA Marathon runners this Sunday. It will be my first time running it. Even with a minor injury and flu, I'm looking forward to the race.

I saw the sign above while driving southbound on Freeway 55. I was so moved by it, that on my way back, I took a detour to find an off-ramp so that I can take a picture of it. Thank you to all of the donors and supporters of this small shoe charity project. It is still small, but we have donated many more pairs in just three months than I had envisioned at the beginning. Because of your generosity, 21 homeless/foster children received a new pair of properly fitted running shoes. It is a privilege to run and to enter races as a hobby. For runners who take the sport more seriously and have had the chance to earn a podium finish or to place in an age-group award in races, it's a wonderful and humbling experience. I hope this project can spread this joy to those less fortunate. We are starting small, and will likely remain small. Yet it's already been a tremendous honor to give and in a small way, to make the world a better place.

ASAP - Mile 26

Happy Pi Day and A Shoe Adoption Project Update: Serendipity! Just in time for LA Marathon weekend, I received intel this morning from an Upland homeless shelter for shoe sizes of seven more children. This is our fifth batch of donation (Corral #5), and it's our biggest donation to date! I went to purchase the shoes shortly after work. As always, I thank all of the donors and supporters who have made this possible. Five boys and two girls will receive new shoes by the end of the week thanks to their generosity. This Corral includes the project's youngest recipient so far, a six-year-old boy.

It is my mission to use 100% of any donations received directly to the children. This project's vision is to promote physical and emotional well-being through spreading the joy of running to those less fortunate. A special thanks to my brother Randy. Him and I were both very sick but wanted to stay up late to gift wrap these shoes so that I can deliver them ASAP. More to follow.

ASAP - Mile 25

A Shoe Adoption Project Update: I delivered two more pairs of shoes to a homeless shelter on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to Director Kami and the staff at Inland Valley Hope Partners for their work. They offered me a tour of the shelter facilities. But due to timing and out of respect for the residents' privacy, we agreed to do it next time. Again, on behalf of the children who have received new shoes, thank you to the generous donors of this project. The truth is, if I were to 'run' this project completely on my own, I would not have been able to deliver anywhere near 14 pairs within the first two months of 2017. I am reminded of an African proverb. "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." I want to go far, fast.
