Back to Trail Racing

I felt very good running the Pasadena Trail Racing series on Sunday 3/24/24.  It was the 10-mile course and I did better than I have over the past two years.  My time was close to the time I ran in 2019.  The plan is to use the upcoming spring break to continue to train and put myself in better form for the next race in May.

Congratulations Jenny

From Mr. Ritchie on 3/29/2024:

Good morning Bearcats!

We had some great news yesterday when Jenny Z. found out that she was the recipient of a  $50,000 scholarship from Edison! This is the second student in two years that has received this award, which is remarkable. Representatives from Edison International, along with Kelly McGarvey, and her family surprised Jenny in Mr. Yip’s class as they presented her the check for $50,000. For those of you who know Jenny, she is extremely humble, but if you see her on campus today, please congratulate her on a fantastic award. NBC did a feature on the Edison awards and that link is below.  Have a great day!
Attached is a picture of Jenny with the BIG check!

Solo Mountain Biking Adventure

With a new bike that is more capable and running on tubeless tires, I explored a new trail from the Claremont Loop.  I have ridden the loop countless times, today was the first time I went down the Gale Mountain way and back up via Pomello Drive.  My old Apple Watch inaccurately tracked the "running" distance.  It was about 13.5 miles from Towne.  The new bike stand is also working well on the first try.  From 3/17/2024

Pawsitivity Award #74

Happy Friday Everyone!
Thank you Kelly for your kind words. I am grateful to have you as a valued co-worker and a friend. I would like to pass the Pawsitivity award on to Maria Ramirez. Maria goes out of her way to make sure her students excel by providing structure and a positive learning environment in her classroom. She is always smiling and happy to help her students.
Of course, when you see her, she will invariably saying something kind, cheerful and funny. Hears to Maria for improving Spanish literacy in Bonita and for being a great friend! Your students are so lucky to have such a dedicated educator and we are so lucky to have you as a co-worker and a friend. You are truly deserving of this award!
Thanks, and Kind Regards,
Madhu Sekhri

Bonita 2024 Employees of the Year!

Good morning Bearcats,

Each year we get to recognize members of our staff and faculty who are doing amazing things on campus. Every year we get nominations for very deserving individuals who go above and beyond to help students be as successful as they can be. Each of the nominees this year are deserving of this award and we thank them for everything they do here at BHS. Unfortunately, each year we are only able to recognize 1 certificated and 1 classified employee of the year and this year the employees of the year are…

Kelly McGarvey – Certificated Employee of the year

Kevin Stanley – Classified Employee of the year

Congratulations to Kelly and Kevin on being voted as our employees of the year! Attached are the BHS recipients with our bearcats.

Have a great day!

Pawsitivity Award #73

Happy Monday everyone! I am pleased to pass on this week’s Pawsitivity Award to my long time colleague and friend, Madhu Sekhri. I admire Madhu for her professionalism, expectations for student excellence in her classroom, and her service to the community, which have been ongoing for many years. As you can imagine, this time of the year, she and her students are quite busy. Madhu’s students are IRS certified as VITA Volunteer Preparers and are helping many people in our local community complete their taxes for free! Additionally, her students are able to complete college units at Mt Sac toward the completion of the Bookkeeping/Accounting program. Her organization and commitment to the community are outstanding and she is very deserving of the Pawsitivity Award. Thank you Madhu – for all you do to make Bonita High School a better place!

Pawsitivity Award #72

Hey All,

I wanted to thank Mrs. Raleigh for her nomination and kinds words. Mrs. Raleigh is one of many who has made me feel welcomed as a part of this amazing community we have at Bonita. I would like to pass on the award to Mrs. McGarvey. I have had the pleasure of conferring with Mrs. McGarvey numerous times over the past two school years to talk about students and discuss trends I see in the classroom. She always welcomes me with a smile and makes time to accommodate my inquiries. Mrs. McGarvey shows a depth of knowledge about our students (and teenagers in general) that I have found invaluable as a new teacher, and her empathy and desire to help each and every student embodies the ethos of what it means to be part of the bearcat staff. I hope that Mrs. McGarvey realizes just how important she is to students and teachers alike, and I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to get to know her. Cheers to you Mrs. McGarvey!

Sincerely,

Kellen

Back to Racing 10K

I have completed in the past 11 races (plus likely one or two more before medals were given out.  Now I'm just short the snake medal for the full collection of the 12 animals.  I didn't run particularly fast, but I felt pretty good throughout the whole distance.  (From 2/25/2024)
