First Week 2018-19

The first week of school went very smoothly. It is my first year using the CPM curriculum, which required changing the classroom structure. The group dynamic is new and I'm learning each day. After a summer long project of putting up white boards along the back wall, I was energized to see the classroom in action. I'm looking forward to this year's classes. (From 8/20/2018)

BHS v DBHS Varsity Football

This may be our only home game at the Bonita Field this year. Constructions for a new stadium should be underway very soon. It was a huge win for the Bearcats. The band and cheer programs entertained the crowd on a fantastic Friday evening.

Bonita Yearbook 2014-2015

I did not buy a copy of the yearbook during my ‘freshman’ year at Bonita. It was an important year in my teaching career. I taught Geometry and AP Statistics to a great group of students. I worked alongside other Geometry teachers and created performance tasks for the course. Many of the Geometry students that year later were in my Pre-Cal and AP Stats classes during their junior and senior years. Thank you, Ms. Peters, for giving me a copy of that yearbook. (June 2018)

Bonita Yearbook 2016-2017

In my third year at Bonita, I developed many more great relationships with the students, staff, and community. I also had an overload this year. One AP Stats section and five Pre-Cal sections. This was a great year for AP Stats, we had a high percentage of students passing. I also served as a co-chair for the Assessments Group for our school’s WASC accreditation. Thank you, Ms. Peter, for this beautiful yearbook. (From June 2018)

I also began my personal shoe charity project: A Shoe Adoption Project at the beginning of 2017.

Bonita Yearbook 2015-2016

In my second year at Bonita, I had three preps: AP Statistics, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. It’s my first time teaching Pre-Cal and it was a wonderful experience. I also began my role as a AP Statistics exam reader for the College Board later that summer. I gained a deeper understanding of statistics during my trip to Kansas City. One of the first things that I learned is that Kansas City is also in Missouri. (June 2018)

2018 Bonita High Staff Lip Sync

Thank you Mr. Eichen and the video production program for including me in this awesome video. This is one of the coolest staff videos ever. A math teacher played the piano with frozen fingers at around the 2:50 mark.

Thank You, Matt

Matt is talented in the performance arts. He was in the musical play last year and I got to see him perform again this year at the Pop Show. He admits to not being the best student. Nonetheless, we had a good year and we got tonkatsu ramen together as well with other seniors just prior to graduation. Thank you for, Matt, for your kind words and gift card. (June 2018)

Poster Card from Finland

Thank you, Auntie Francis, for this special postcard from Santa Claus' Main Post Office. This came from the Arctic Circle in Finland. After serving the needs of many as a high ranking nurse in Hong Kong, I am very happy that my beloved Auntie Francis (aka Auntie Love, aka Auntie Ung) is enjoying her retirement by being a full-time world traveler.

Gift for Ryan

Ryan was a freshman when he was in my geometry class. I was fortunate to have him again last year in Pre-Cal when he was a junior. We capped off his senior year with him in my AP Statistics class. He has been one of most outstanding students that I have had the pleasures of teaching at Bonita High School.  He will be attending the University of La Verne in the fall.  This gift pack should help get him off to a smooth start. Ryan was on the varsity water polo and swim team. He has been serving the city as a police explorer and aspires to be a police officer in the future. (From 6/5/2018)

ASAP - Mile 73 (Ten More Pairs)

A Shoe Adoption Project Update - We donated ten more pairs of shoes to Foothill Family Shelter in Upland on Thursday afternoon (8/9/2018). I hope these shoes will bring some joy to the homeless children as school is about to resume in the neighboring districts. My friend Eloise’s contribution (a pair of Reeboks) is included in this batch of donation. Thank you, Eloise. Thank you also to Shauna, who is Lead Case Manager at Foothill Family Shelter in Upland, for her communications.

During my visit to the shelter's office to drop off our donation, I had the pleasure of briefly meeting the co-executive director Megan of Foothill Family Shelter. She works with community development and is very kind and welcoming. This batch of shoes will likely go to her clients who are in the "120 Day Program".

“Summer’s almost over” (by Seth Godin – August 8th, 2018)

When I was a kid, my mom would start saying that in mid-July.

I think she meant well. Summer is a great time to stand back, to chill out, to spend an entire day or a week producing little or nothing and simply breathe.

But she was reminding us that regardless of our internal clock, the real world keeps moving forward, and that maybe this little window of time, one that we’ll never see again, could be a great time to make a contribution, find a connection and explore what might be possible. The ability to create is a rare privilege, and it’s not to be ignored.

If you can make a ruckus, make a ruckus.

With this batch of donation, we have contributed to 122 pairs of shoes delivered to children who are in need. Have a wonderful weekend, summer's almost over.

Thank You, Dana

Thank you, Dana, for a fantastic year. I had Dana in my Pre-Calculus class during her junior year. She is one of the smartest student that I have had. On top of her academics excellence, Dana is also on the varsity volleyball, swim, and water polo program. She gave me these photos on the last day of the school year. (From 6/6/2018)
