Staff BBQ & First Home Game (2015-16)
The staff was treated to a relaxing BBQ at the end of week one of the 2015-16 school year. Thank you to Mrs. Lindsay and the ASB, we enjoyed an afternoon in the shaded field with hamburgers, hotdogs, and ice-creams. After the BBQ, I also attended our first home football game of the season. It was a 49-2 win for the Bonita Bearcats. The Marching Bearcats, Cheer, and Song also performed at halftime. It was great to see the wonderful crowd and a fantastic way to cap off a smooth start to this exciting school year.

Frog Paper Weight
A Christmas gift from 2009 when Sarine was in my Honors Geometry class. She was a top student who also excelled in varsity basketball. I recall that she was very proud of her Armenian heritage. Once, she emphasized to me that there are two kinds of Armenians. When I asked her which one she is, she replied: "I don't know, I'm think I'm the better kind from the north."

Bucket of Support
The ASB continues to amaze us. The student leaders visited my classroom on the first day of school and delivered this small personalized bucket of snacks. Thank you, ASB, for your support.

Gum Ball Jar
Teachers were welcome back to school with this nifty gift. A jar of colorful gum balls. Our ASB sure knows how to take care of us by showing their appreciation for us throughout the year. I am very grateful for all that they do.

Foreign Student's Family Photo
Ivy is an exchange student from China. Throughout the year, I sense that she was in isolation despite a welcoming AP Stats class that embraced her. She worked very hard, came to Saturday review sessions, and I was willing to help her many times outside of class. At the end of the year, she told me that she will be attending the University of Michigan after a visit to China. We were all very happy for her. She gave me this gift at the end of the year. Inside the box is a simply bracelet. I didn't realize how much this photo may mean to her, I really should have given it back to her. On the back of the photo, she told me that the people in the photo are her grandparents, her, and her cousin when she was a child in China.

Surprise & Sarcastic Gift
On the last day of school in June 2015, I found this mug on my desk upon returning to my room after lunch. I must have missed Peony's visit. I still haven't the chance to thank her for this thoughtful and sarcastic gift.

Staff Parking Pass 2015
It may be a mundane object, but I find this simply pass to be well designed and full of school spirit.

Welcome Back Apple
On the first day back to school, teachers throughout the district gathered at our school for technology training sessions. I attended three sessions. Mrs. Verti presented on Desmos, Dr. McGarvey presented on Aris, and Mr. Waters presented on Kahoots. All three teachers were excellent and I learned a lot. After lunch, we were greeted by our enthusiastic new principle Mr. Bud. The ASB and Mrs. Lindsay made each staff member a welcome back sign with an invitation to our staff BBQ at the first home football game of the year. This year, I strive once again to be the best math teacher that I can be for my students.

Phi - The Golden Ratio
Thank you, JonCue, for this beautiful t-shirt. The lower case Greek letter phi is used as a symbol for the golden ratio in math and science.
