Thank you Mrs. Vandenberg
I've been having mosquito bites from the classroom. Mrs. Vandenberg gave me a home-made bottle of essential oil spray as a natural remedy. I am very grateful for caring coworkers. Thank you Mrs. Vandenberg! (From 10/9/2020)

Thank You Ms. Knox
A student's mother contacted me to observe my class. She is in the process of earning her teaching credential. Andrea's daughter Hannah was in my AP Calculus class two years ago, and her son Charlie is currently in my Honors PreCalculus class. She later returned to give me a kind note and gift card. Good luck Andrea! I think she'll be a wonderful biology teacher. (From 10/5/2020)

Thank You Joey
My student Joey delivered a home-made mask to my mailbox at school on Thursday. I had the pleasure of having Joey in Integrated Math III last year and again in Honors PreCalculus this year. Thank you Joey.

Thank You Bonita Administrators
Our school administrators surprised all of the teachers by delivering a beautiful sign to our homes on Friday. What a wonderful gesture. I am grateful for our amazing leadership at Bonita High School. Proud to be a Bearcat. (From 10/9/2020)

Distance Math Instruction Tool - DeltaMath
In addition to Khan Academy and AP Classrooms, I am also exploring the use of Delta Math. We are starting with the free version/account. As I explore more and if it is useful, the annual cost is also reasonable. This program can allow students to complete more paperless practices to meet today's digital age demands. At the same time, I still feel very strongly about doing math on paper. (From 10/5/2020)

Distance Math Instruction Tool - Khan Academy
Through the first few weeks of distance instruction, it is difficult to assess students. The few opportunities that I had to see students' independent work, I noticed a lot of gaps in math skills. Students won't find doing repetitive drills on foundational math skills appealing, so I am exploring Khan Academy as an option. Using Khan Academy, I can assign four problems for each math skills. Students have the option to continue trying until they get four correct responses for full credit. Students also may use their phones to complete the assignments. I will also use it for AP Calculus where the interpretation of graphs can be easily done on Khan Academy. (From 9/24/2020)

Bonita ASB Student Buddy
We are blessed with an amazing group of student leaders at Bonita. Ms. Pocino assigned a student buddy to each teacher. I am so lucky to have one of my students as my student-teacher buddy. Sophie was in my Integrated Math 3 class last year and she's in my Pre-Calculus Honors this year. Sophie is a student-athlete playing varsity field hockey for Bonita and enjoys hangout out with her teammates, friends, and family. We both enjoy listening to Jack Johnson. (From 9/21/2020)

Distance Math Instruction Tool - AP Classrooms (Calculus & Statistics)
I never take for granted of my unique opportunity to teach AP Calculus and AP Statistics. To facilitate distance learning, I have explored the integration of the resources on AP Classroom by the College Board. The interface is relatively easy to navigate. I used it as assessment for both courses last week and plan to continue to incorporate it as a resource for student learning. I particularly liked that the question bank can be searched by the official units of studies as outlined by the AP courses. For AP Calculus, I have used AP Classroom for multiple choice quizzes that are challenging for this high achieving group of students. (From 9/21/2020)

Distance Math Instruction Tool - Sapling Learning for AP Statistics
We are using a new textbook for AP Statistics this year. It is a text that we picked and the curriculum came with a powerful online learning component. During distance learning, we rely on various sources of learning materials. Sapling so far seems to be a suitable application. We had issues integrating it to Canvas over the summer. Our sales representative did not respond to our service requests. I reached out to Sapling directly and was able to get an appointment with an integration technology specialist named Ji. She was extremely helpful and guided me to begin using the interface. I really hope this can streamline my AP Stats course to facilitate student learning. For Chapters 1 & 2, I've used Sapling for homework and quizzes. Sapling has saved me a huge amount of time, I can see me using it for the foreseeable future for AP Statistics. (From 9/16/2020)

Tik Tok Coach Kaylee
I asked our Song Captain to share a Tik Tok that's easy to do for our spirit week. I was only expecting a link with music, but Kaylee went above and beyond by giving doing a demonstration. "Savage Love" by Jason Derulo. (From 9/22/2020)
