Congratulations to Omar on his honor and hard work. I had the pleasure of having Omar last year in Integrated Math III.
It’s a bit late for senior awards, but last night we received some really good news in VideoLand. Back in March, Senior Omar De Leon entered the High Tide Film Contest held by the Aquarium of the Pacific. His short film, ‘Senora Oceano’, moved through three rounds of elimination to win second place in the ‘Ocean and Me’ category. He was in attendance with his family last night at the Aquarium to receive his award package, including a $1500 cash prize.
Omar has been the single best film-maker to come through the video program. He is responsible for the weekly announcements and he did a majority of the editing work for the virtual holiday concerts earlier this year. He is also currently working on one last project, a virtual staging of the play ‘Clue’ in partnership with Michael Frederick’s drama dept. On top this, he produces videos for his own YouTube channel about once a month. In the fall, he heads off to film school at The LA Film School.
Here is the video that won last night: https://youtu.be/zn7gbbTdMjU
